Browns hiring Todd Monken as new coach in blow to Giants

The Giants are going to need to look to Plan B for their OC.

The Browns are expected to hire Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their next head coach, ESPN reported Wednesday.

Monken was expected to follow former boss John Harbaugh to New York if he didn’t land a head coaching opportunity.

The Giants requested an interview with their former quarterback Davis Webb, who is the Broncos’ quarterbacks coach, for their offensive coordinator vacancy.

Cleveland is coming off a 5-12 season under Kevin Stefanski, who was fired to kick off the offseason and has since landed a head coaching job with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Browns were rejected multiple times during the head-coaching search, with Mike McDaniel, Jesse Minter and Grant Udinski all pulling out of consideration.

In the end, the three finalists were Monken, Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase and the Browns’ own defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

A big decision for Monken will be naming the Browns’ starting quarterback.

Most of the snaps at QB were split between rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, with both flashing moments of potential but lacking consistency.

Sanders, who fell to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, threw for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns with 10 interceptions after taking over for Gabriel.

The Browns also have Deshaun Watson on their roster on a massive contract, as he is expected to return from a ruptured Achilles that cost him the entire 2025 season

The AFC North has been under heavy reconstruction this offseason, with Harbaugh getting fired by the Ravens and taking the Giants’ job, while Mike Tomlin stepped down as Steelers coach.

The Steelers replaced Tomlin with longtime Packers and Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy.
