There is one ingredient you should add to broccoli after you roast it to make it taste more delicious. Broccoli can be cooked in many ways, but roasting it is how many swear by getting the tastiest and juiciest broccoli side dish. Broccoli is a diverse vegetable and is served alongside many meals, such as a Sunday roast or even a simple green salad. While it can be simply roasted as is, there are a number of ways you can add a lovely burst of flavour to your roasted broccoli.
Multiple home cooks and food bloggers have shared their tips and tricks for making broccoli taste better when you are roasting it for your next hearty meal. And many praise the same ingredient, describing it as an excellent flavour enhancer and a way to make your broccoli the “tastiest” you have ever had. The secret ingredient for great-tasting roasted broccoli, according to many cooks and experts, is lemon.
According to All Recipes, a squeeze of lemon on broccoli right after it has been roasted gives it a lovely “tangy” flavour. They say that you should squeeze a lemon “liberally” over your roasted broccoli, meaning there should be plenty of that lovely lemon flavour present when you take your first bite.
Meanwhile, the food experts at Love and Lemons reveal that roasting lemons along with your broccoli and then squeezing them over is a great way to make the most out of this delicious combination. “My favorite way to serve oven-roasted broccoli is with a big squeeze of lemon juice and red pepper flakes,” the author writes.
For this method, you first need to preheat your oven to around 200C. Meanwhile, line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, and while your oven is warming up, cut your head of broccoli into even pieces.
Spread them over the baking sheet and toss them in sea salt, pepper and olive oil before going into the oven for 15 to 22 minutes, or until the broccoli flourets have become slightly browned and crisp.
When it is done cooking, take the lemons you have roasted and squeeze them generously over your broccoli and serve it while it is still warm. “Then, finish them with a big sprinkle of red pepper flakes,” they add.
All Recipe’s method is similar but with the addition of garlic, and has proven to be a hit with those who have tried it. One person commented under the recipe: “I can’t quit eating these! I had no idea you could cook broccoli this way. It is SO good!”
Another said: “This recipe did not disappoint. I cut my broccoli into rather large pieces asnd I even cut the stalks and baked those, as well.”
A third wrote: “My family loved this. Going to be my new way of making broccoli!”
