A British man was found dead between two parked cars in a popular Spanish holiday resort. Police rushed to the scene after receiving a 999 emergency call at roughly 7.45am on Monday.
The area was immediately cordoned off to allow forensic teams to carry out their work. An investigation into the 50-year-old’s death has been launched by the police, who as yet have not been able to confirm the cause of death. His body was discovered in a street in the port town of Javea, situated on the Costa Blanca and up the coast from Benidorm.
The town is known for its dramatic cliffs and panoramic views, and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists.
An Alicante Civil Guard spokesman confirmed the dead man was a 50-year-old British national.
He added: “At around 7.45am this morning, through a regional emergency response coordination centre, a report was received regarding the discovery of a possible deceased person on a street in the municipality of Javea.
“The officers dispatched to the scene confirmed the death of a 50-year-old British man.
“The Territorial Team of the Judicial Police of Calpe has taken charge of the investigations to clarify the circumstances of the incident.”
An autopsy of the dead man was carried out, but the results have not yet been disclosed.
The Civil Guard noted that there were no obvious signs of violence at the location, where the deceased man was found.
They insisted that they were still waiting the conclusive results of the autopsy to establish the cause of death.
