Emergency crews, including paramedics and firefighters, attended the scene but the woman sadly died.
The plane had been en route to Scotland on Friday, December 29, when the emergency was declared.
After landing at Funchal Airport in Madeira at 6.20pm, the plane continued its journey at around 9pm, according to Portuguese publication dnoticias.pt.
Tui has been approached for comment on the tragedy.
