British expat in Spain reveals why she’ll ‘never return’ to UK | World | News

British expats have been known to leave the UK for pastures new in places with sunnier weather and an often more favourable lifestyle. One of those expats is TikTok star Georgia, who posts under the username Georgia in Spain, expalined in a video why she won’t go back to the UK after relocating to the Costa del Sol.

Georgia, who works as an influencer, shares snippets of her life in Malaga and explains why she decided to move and why she loves it there. In a recent viral video, the influencer, who is in her 20s, showed off what a typical Sunday looks like for her in Malaga and listed the reasons why she would “never” move back to the UK. Georgia has been living in Spain for over five years, and says she experiences quite a culture shock every time she returns to the UK. In the clip, which received over one million views, she shows off the clear blue sky and scenic surroundings as she explains why life there is better than in Britain.

Georgia explains: “It isn’t just about the weather, it is the lifestyle in general. I feel like I am a healthier person in Spain because of the food that I eat and the amount of time I spend outdoors.”

“Also, it’s so normal [in Spain] to socialise during the week and not just wait for the weekend which is something that I love about living here, whether it’s going for a drink or going for a coffee or breakfast, there are always things to do during the week and the weekend.

“Also in the mornings, people who you don’t even know say good morning to you, which I just think is such a nice way to start the day. In England, that would be kind of weird to do.”

She also reveals the rising house prices in the UK is one of the reasons she decided to leave and not return, explaining: “I honestly don’t think I’d be able to afford to live in England again. I know prices have increased everywhere, but it’s so expensive now.”

Showing off the scenic Spanish coastline, she continues: “Having this on your doorstep for a cheaper price is a no-brainer.”

There is a significant number of British citizens living in Spain. In 2023, Statista reported the number to be slightly over 284,000. According to data from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), Brits are the second-highest number of foreign residents in Spain behind Romanians.

Georgia’s video received over 1,000 comments with people sharing their opinions on her life in Spain as a Brit and their own desires to make a similar move.

One person wrote: “I feel so much freer, happier, healthier here.” Another commented: “I grew up in Marbella and now live in the UK and I miss it everyday.”
