British Airways pilot grounded after 'covering up mental health problems'

A British Airways pilot has been grounded for allegedly covering up reported mental health issues.

The captain is alleged to have covered up a history of sudden bouts of anger which allegedly caused him to lash out.

A whistleblower has alleged the pilot’s medical history of failing to address his “impulsive anger” has been removed from his record, according to reports.

The man was reported to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in January.

It issues flying licences to pilots as long as they don’t suffer from a physical or mental condition which could impact their ability to pilot a jet.

It is understood the man has not been formally suspended, but he has been barred from flying while an investigation is ongoing.

A source told The Sun that the idea of a captain in charge of passengers at 30,000ft suddenly lashing out in fits of anger is “a big no, no”.

They said: “If anger management problems were part of his medical history, there is no chance he’d be allowed to fly.”

The source said falsifying medical records is an “incredibly serious accusation” and would fall into the realm of “fraudulently acquiring a job”.

They added airline bosses had no choice but to ground the pilot while a probe was ongoing.

Express.co.uk has contacted BA for comment. The airline told The Sun the pilot has been grounded. The CAA declined to comment.
