'Bratty' girl's savage response after rejecting Aunty's gift because it's not 'designer'

A “bratty” teenage girl was slammed for being ungrateful after her aunt did not buy her expensive “designer make-up” for Christmas.

The 14-year-old girl’s aunt was mortified after her niece did not hide the fact that she was disappointed she received makeup from Boots, instead of Armani like she was expecting.

The aunt took to Mumsnet to vent her frustration, she said: “Gave my niece (through marriage) a Christmas present. She’s 14.

“She is obsessed with make-up, and hair, and because of her dad, loves designer things. She’s spoilt. 5-star holidays, bags, you name it, she’s got it or at least wants it.”

When she handed the teen her presents, the young girl expressed blatant disapproval.

“I gave her some makeup items and she was SO disappointed, she said.

“She opened it, and the look on her face said it all. She expected Armani make-up and I got her Boots items. Either way, since when have pre-teens become so spoilt? Next time I’m not even going to bother. Has anyone else experienced bratty children? How to handle them through gritted teeth? Shouldn’t kids at least feign excitement?”

In the comments, one person attributed the girl’s behavior to her father, saying: “I think it’s her Dad’s fault more than hers. She has been taught Armani etc is good stuff, but high street stuff is rubbish. I wouldn’t bother next year. Just give money, or nothing.”

Another commenter shared similar sentiments, she said: “I would not bother next year. What a brat. Even my seven-year-old knows how to say thank you even if he is disappointed!”

A disapproving mother suggested that the decision to continue buying for the girl should depend on her display of gratitude and understanding of gift etiquette.

She remarked: “If she didn’t say thank you for the gift or show appreciation for the gesture, then I wouldn’t bother buying for her next year. At 14 years old she ought to have some understanding of good manners and gift etiquette – yes, even if she didn’t like the actual gift you chose.”

Another individual expressed frustration with the situation, blaming the girl’s father for her entitled behaviour. Despite acknowledging the father’s role, they emphasised the importance of teaching the girl about the real world and suggested that she should have some awareness at her age.

“I don’t think you should let it go, despite it being really his fault. Someone’s got to try and teach this girl about the real world, and surely she’s old enough to have some clue herself??? I despair. Some of these spoilt kids live in a total bubble.”
