Getting a quote
Getting a quote for a new boiler was super simple on the BOXT website, and you are given one with recommended boilers within minutes, after completing some basic questions.
From answering whether you’re the homeowner or landlord, to what kind of fuel your boiler uses, to how old your current boiler is, to whether you’d like it moving or not, you’ll have a detailed plan of the package you need.
You’ll also need to answer some questions about your home, such as how many bedrooms you have, how many bathtubs as well and how many radiators you have. After finishing up by entering your postcode, BOXT will give you a few detailed options to pick from.
The website couldn’t be easier to follow, and as someone who knew nothing about boilers or installation, I found it was really easy to navigate. I was worried that I had answered a few questions wrong, but the team later checked in to go through everything anyway.
I opted to have my boiler moved from the attic to an airing cupboard on my first-floor landing, and BOXT were super accommodating of this. I found having the appliance in the loft super inconvenient, as I didn’t like entering it, so I always had to get someone to enter for me if it needed resetting. When you select your boiler, you can also choose to add on radiators, should you need new or replacement fittings.
You can then either proceed with booking the installation or easily see which dates are available on a handy calendar. Or, if you need more time to think about the investment, you can save your quote to revisit at a later date. While it’s all online, you can also go through the process with the BOXT customer service, or ask them for any help you may need. In fact, their customer service was faultless.
It’s not just the boiler you’re paying for, either. Every installation comes complete with everything you need to get your system upgraded and running. This includes the delivery of the items, the impeccable installation, and scaffolding if needed.
BOXT also currently offers an all-in-one boiler plan from £33.35 a month, which includes a boiler installation, unlimited repairs, replacement and servicing. You can also opt for financing.
After proceeding with the booking, I was then asked to send in several photos to help the engineer know about your boiler setup. This was a simple task that involved taking just six pictures: the current boiler, the current boiler controls, the pipework around the boiler, the position of the flue, your gas meter, and one of the front of your home. To take the photos correctly, I found examples that were a big help.

Installation
After selecting the recommended Worcester Bosch package, I was able to choose a suitable installation date. If I wanted to, I could’ve picked the following day to have it installed, or even a Saturday. However, I opted for the week after, so I had some time to empty the airing cupboard.
Prior to installation, I sent over various photos of the boiler, the airing cupboard and the flue so that the boiler engineer knew what to expect. A BOXT engineer was also in touch a few days prior to explain the process and answer any questions I had.
I thought it would be tricky to go through this process without having someone view the house, but as I learnt with the air conditioning installation, it was seamless and made so easy.
The boiler engineer arrived on time on the morning of the installation day, and the boiler came a couple of hours after. The engineer got to work straightaway and was very accommodating when it came to our pets, making sure to keep the front door closed.
I left the skilled engineer to work, and I couldn’t believe the knowledge that he had, explaining what he was doing and how it all worked. He worked tirelessly upstairs and in the loft to fit the new boiler in what wasn’t a straightforward replacement, but rather a complete move.
During every BOXT boiler installation, the engineer will complete a chemical flush of the full system as standard. They use a chemical cleaning solution to break down built-up sludge, then add fresh water back into the system, which uses natural flow pressure to flush out the debris.
We also upgraded and had a MagnaCleanse system flush, which is a process that clears your system of harsh, unwanted materials. It provides a faster and more effective cleaning by using multiple components to remove magnetite, rust and other build-ups in the system.
Additionally, we opted for an in-line scale reducer to help reduce limescale, as I live in an area with very hard water.
After 10 hours, our new boiler installation had finished in the airing cupboard, and it looked amazing. I was in shock at how mess-free the engineer had left the cupboard, loft, and our home, with not a single speck of dust or sign that we’d had any work done at all.
I was then shown how to use the new boiler, and since we already had a Hive thermostat, we were familiar with how it all worked. We were informed prior to installation that our water pressure might be a little weaker due to our old boiler being extremely powerful, but we haven’t experienced that at all.

After care
After the installation, BOXT were super efficient with registering the boiler on the app, with the warranty, order and documents easy to view. There’s also an option to contact the company if I have any queries, as well as report an issue.
I can also see the air conditioning warranty and documents, and I love having it all in one place. Gone are the days of digging out paperwork and finding warranties and phone numbers; this is efficient and easy to navigate. I love that everything is in one place, and BOXT really does make it simple, showing that they always have the customer at the forefront of their mind.
Our boiler probably had a few years left in it, if that, and I’d say it absolutely was worth it. BOXT removed any complexity or difficulty and made it simple from start to finish. Although the move of the boiler was a big job, no task was too big for our engineer, who answered any questions we wanted to know while tirelessly working to complete the job for us.
Regular servicing can also help to extend the lifespan of a boiler. BOXT also state that an annual boiler service is needed to keep your boiler warranty valid. A yearly service by a Gas Safe Registered engineer helps to keep boiler problems to a minimum. If you don’t, there is a greater chance of something going wrong on your system, potentially resulting in higher energy bills or expensive repairs. With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, I’m ensuring it’s serviced yearly to avoid this issue.
I have already noticed huge benefits in having a new boiler. My radiators heat up a lot quicker and hold their heat, the boiler doesn’t make creaking noises, and the biggest one, I can see my bill reducing. I’m excited to find out how much I’ve saved after winter.
