If you want to nudge up the price of your home, either to sell or simply to enjoy, you don’t have to spend thousands. Your first instinct might be a kitchen extension, or a new bathroom – but the simplest way to update your home is far easier.
A recent study found that a well-maintained driveway can add up to 10% to your property’s value. With the average UK house price currently sitting at £271,079, according to Nationwide, this is a potential gain of over £27,000. Bill Jarvis, a driveway sealer specialist at Premium Paints, said: “A driveway is the first thing a potential buyer sees when they pull up to your house.”
“A clean, well-cared-for driveway gives the impression of a well-cared-for home. It’s a low-effort, high-impact job that provides a huge return on investment.”
If you want to boost your home’s value, Bill says it can all be done in a day of simple work.
Start by clearing away any weeds, moss or random debris that may have piled up to prepare for the next steps.
Using a stiff brush, scrub your driveway to remove dirt, oil stains and grams and then inspect your driveway for any cracks or fractures.
If you do have some cracks, use a quality sealant to prevent water from seeping in and causing further damage.
If you have grass to the side of your driveway, tidy up the edges to give a more polished look. To take your curb appeal even further, try applying a fresh lick of paint to your front door and swapping out any old, worn out house numbers or letter boxes.
These small touches can make the entrance look modern and well-cared-for, which will appeal to buyers.
