B&M shopper left in tears at the checkout after looking into trolley

Christmas is without a doubt the most expensive time of the year for many. As the receipts rack up it’s easy to see why shoppers get stressed as they try and find the cash to pay for festive treats.

Now it’s been revealed that one woman feeling the strain burst into tears at bargain retailer B&M after she realised she didn’t have the money to cover the cost of the items she’d selected.

It was at the Great Homer Street store, in Merseyside, around 8.30pm on December 16, when the customer was headed to the till, reports the Liverpool Echo. A staff member said the woman asked if she could leave some items in her trolley and pay for what she could afford.

But then a kindhearted man stepped forward to save the day, dropping cash into her trolley and wished her “Merry Christmas”.

The staff member told the LiverpoolECHO: “As she was sorting out her shopping, an older male waiting behind her walked up to her, simply said ‘Merry Christmas’ and dropped what looked to be a large wad of money on her shopping in her trolley and walked out without saying anything else.

“The woman stood there for a minute or so crying saying she couldn’t believe it.” The staff member said they hoped the “nice Christmas gesture” would “warm people’s hearts before Christmas and show how good and close the Liverpool community spirit is.”

Meanwhile generous Daily Express readers have been praised for raising enough money to feed more than 1,200 hungry schoolchildren every day for a year.

You have given more than £12,000 towards our Christmas appeal this year – a sum that has been doubled by a group of generous donors. The UK charity Mary’s Meals provides a cup of fortified porridge to pupils in 17 countries.

It has boosted attendance and slashed drop-out rates.

Jessica Faulkner, head of media at Mary’s Meals, said: “We are so thankful to the generous Express readers who have donated to our Christmas appeal so far. Your support for these hungry little ones means they can access an education which can be their ladder out of poverty. And this is a perfect time to donate.”
