WASHINGTON − President Joe Biden and conservative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene appear to have found one area of agreement: Biden is a lot like Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Lyndon B. Johnson.
For Biden, that’s a good thing.
For Greene, that’s a political slam.
Both presidents, commonly known by their initials, FDR and LBJ created “big government programs” to address health care, education, welfare, rural poverty and other issues, the Greene said this weekend during remarks at the conservative Turning Point Action conference.
Biden, she said, is “attempting to complete socialism” by building on what Roosevelt started and Johnson expanded.
“Our government is one big, fat bloated machine, and it’s killing the American dream,” she said.
The White House has been drawing attention to Greene’s remarks – at least the part about Biden trying to, as the White House put it, make life easier for hardworking families.
“We agree with her all around, all around on this,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday. “We are opposed to rural poverty.”
Earlier this month, Biden singled out Greene when emphasizing that every Republican in Congress voted against his landmark climate law that is now spurring a wave of manufacturing and clean-energy projects across the country.
“Since I took office, we’ve seen over 60 domestic manufacturing announcements all across the solar supply chain,” Biden said in remarks in West Columbia, S.C. “One of the biggest is in Dalton, Ga. You may find it hard to believe but that’s Marjorie Taylor Greene’s district.”
Biden then smiled and added: “I’ll be there for the groundbreaking.”
