Best British seaside towns to visit over the balmy weekend from Cornwall to Yorkshire

Down towards the south coast, where more sun hits the small island than in more northern spaces is the seaside coastal town of Brighton.

Brighton offers a heady mix of boozers, cafés, entertainment and a pebbly beach that saves you from grainy sand sticking all over you.

The buzzy atmosphere at the seafront in East Sussex is indicative of the lively social scene that extends way past The Lanes nearby. Nestled in Nile Street, enjoy a bustling crowd that is likely being serenaded by talented buskers.

Another recommended seaside town to enjoy is Deal by the Kent coast, which is a picturesque and charming location.

There’s Deal Castle to explore, Linden Hall Studio to enjoy looking at contemporary art, and proper fish and chips to enjoy by the sea.

History buffs will not only love venturing around Deal Castle, but would relish walking down Middle Street with its colourful homes from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Further down south is the beautiful St Ives in Cornwall known for its seafood, art and surfing. St Ives has sandy beaches, quaint cobbles streets, and acclaimed galleries to peruse.

You can also take a boat trip to Seal Island to witness a colony of grey seals while taking in great views of the rugged Cornish coast.

Enjoy sitting at a beach café along the gorgeous postcard worthy harbour overlooking turquoise waters.

Moving north, there’s Whitby in Yorkshire with its dramatic coastline and soft stretches of caramel sand. Activity lovers can climb 199 Steps to reach a scenic point that is the ideal photo opportunity.

Lifelong learners can head to Captain Cook Memorial Museum to find out more about the British explorer and naval officer.

Even further up north in Scotland, it’s best to visit Tobermory in the Isle of Mull. The iconic harbour front featured as the opening scene for CBeebies children’s programme Balamory back in the 90s.

In addition to being famous, the tiny town has a local puffin population that nature lovers will adore.
