Beautiful town where Brits are flocking to downsize as houses cost just £235k

If you’re looking to downsize there are plenty of places across the UK that you could find a place to call home. However, there’s one area of eastern England that appears more popular with younger downsizers than anywhere else.

According to estate agents Hamptons, East Lindsey in Lincolnshire tops the list for people aged between 50 and 60 looking for a smaller house.

And, really, you can’t blame them. With the coast to the east and the gorgeous Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) to the west, East Lindsey is nestled between two significant attractions.

But, of course, East Lindsey – which actually is a district comprising towns rather than being a town itself – boasts fantastic architecture, history and culture. To top it off, the average house price in the area is £235,000.

Within the district is the town of Louth. Louth is famed for its Victorian and Georgian architecture as well as the beautiful St James’ Church.

One visitor from Texas took to Tripadvisor to share her rave review of the religious building, saying: “Gorgeous church with fascinating history. My husband climbed all 199 steps in the tower to look out over the countryside (not for the faint-hearted). Very friendly volunteer staff. Definitely worth a stop.”

In the east of East Lindsey is the classic much-loved town of Skegness, or ‘Skeggy’ to locals. Given its coastal location, Skegness is best known for its beach.

Tripadvisor users have taken to the site to review the stretch of sand.

One user said: “On a blustery but sunny November morning the beach promenade provides a lovely walk. The information about the offshore wind farms was interesting and the views of the North Sea were stunning. The shelters and benches have obviously been replaced and this adds to the vista. The RNLI station is interesting and the shop had very reasonably priced Christmas decorations.”

Another added: “Skegness has beautiful clean beaches with miles of golden sand, it has to be one of the best in the country, knowing it’s a blue flag beach is a big bonus too.”
