Members of the Royal Family were out in force this morning, as they attended the traditional Easter Mattins Service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
The event, which was scaled-back due to the King’s cancer treatment, marked Charles’s most significant public appearance since he was diagnosed earlier this year. He had been holding several public-facing duties but has started to ramp up the number of private engagements with sources suggesting his recovery is going well.
But while all eyes were on the King today, some eagle-eyed royal fans may have noticed that all but one of the royal women were wearing green. Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and Sarah Ferguson all chose to wear the colour today – and some experts think the decision has something to do with the King and the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnoses.
Asked if the royal women have chosen to wear green as a show of support to Charles and Kate because the colour is synonymous with the cancer ribbon and Macmillan cancer support, royal expert Afua Hagan told the Daily Express: “Yes, I think this could be the reason – so yes, I would agree with this!”
Meanwhile, personal stylist Francesca Cairns agreed the royals were definitely making a statement with the colour choice, and said: “Green represents growth, symbolism that is especially apt during the Easter season, when themes of sacrifice, resurrection, and new beginnings abound.”
Wearing a light green coat, and an emerald green hat with dark feather, Princess Anne was all smiles as she stepped out of a car with her husband to walk towards the church entrance and greet wider Royal Family members.
Princess Anne, who is a fan of recycled fashion, has worn the green coat at previous royal engagements over the years.
For her Easter look, she chose brown accessories to match, with tan gloves, dark brown boots and a suede handbag.
Her hair was swept back in her trademark style.
