BBC News gaffe as presenter can't contain his laughter after pothole joke

A BBC News presenter was caught in a hilarious gaffe live on air after he became tickled by an accidental innuendo.

Peter Levy, a presenter for the broadcaster’s Look North regional service, was seen struggling to contain his laughter during a segment on potholes.

As part of the segment, viewers were asked to send pictures of the worst potholes in their areas.

But he made an accidental innuendo while speaking to one of the participating viewers

The programme captured the moment he attempted, and failed, to stifle his laughter and maintain his composure.

When viewers started sending in their pictures, Mr Levy said: “We’re already being contacted by viewers watching the programme, but we want to know how bad it is where you are.”

He then made the unfortunate innuendo when he asked people: “How big is your hole?”

A video of the moment captured the presenter as he struggled not to break into laughter.

Despite realising his mistake, he continued onwards, but viewers could hear him nearly breaking into laughter.

Under his half-laughter, he added: “If you can send a picture, Norton’s always in a hole.

“If you can tweet me a picture, that would be good as well. The biggest potholes, we’ll be having some on the programme.”

The mistake did not go unnoticed by viewers, many of whom took to social media to proclaim their admiration of the presenter’s professionalism.

One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, said the presenter did “very well not to lose it there”.

Another added: “Every week Look North gives us all a better reason to keep local programming alive.”

A third viewer suggested this wasn’t the first time Mr Levy had been in a similar situation, stating they loved “hearing Peter’s double entendres”.
