BBC Masterchef viewers threaten to 'turn off' as they fume at new 'unfair' round

BBC viewers are used to seeing Masterchef stick to relatively the same format each year, but in a bid to spice things up, the show has incorporated a shock new twist.

This year, former hopefuls who made it as far as the semi-finals have the opportunity to return and vie for the crown, in what has been dubbed as “comeback week”.

On Wednesday’s episode, judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace welcomed back five former contestants, and on tonight’s episode, another five graced the Masterchef kitchen.

However, viewers weren’t happy with the brand new round and flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air their grievances over the “unfair” decision to bring back people who’ve already had a chance.

One frustrated viewer penned: “#Masterchef Just an excuse to use a large portion of old film and cut back on costs…normally dont mind Masterchef ..but ‘comeback week (s)’ is a turn off immediately decision.” (sic)

Another social media user asked: “Surely this weird comeback contestant idea is unfair on the other first timers? #Masterchef.”

Somebody else fumed: “Getting to the semi final and then being invited back isn’t really a second chance is it – these people have had their moment, should just stick to new contestants #Masterchef.”

Yet another said: “Is #Masterchef running out of NEW contestants as it’s now bringing back participants from previous shows. #Masterchef.”

A fifth expressed: “#Masterchef they’re struggling for contestants that’s why they’ve brought them back still wrong though!”
