There’s nothing worse than stepping out of a lovely shower or bath and starting to dry yourself, only to find that your towel has a musty smell. This often happens when they haven’t been able to dry properly and have been put away too soon, and it’s a very common problem.

You use towels at home every day, so you want them to smell as fresh as possible. And making one simple switch to your laundry routine could help you banish those mouldy aromas for good. The easy trick involves adding just one product to your towels before washing them.

Sharing her advice was Chantel Mila on TikTok, an Australian mum and influencer with more than one million followers.

Often posting helpful home organisation tips, one of her latest videos was focused on a few different tricks that’ll make cleaning your bathroom so much easier.

Also, if smelly towels are a problem you frequently face, you might want to consider adding baking soda to your laundry regime.

This common kitchen ingredient isn’t just good for baking cakes; it also has powerful cleaning and deodorising capabilities.

She recommends sprinkling this product on your towels before you put them in the washinh machine.

This will help to ‘rid any musty odours’, leaving them smelling fresh and clean once again.

Not only this, but baking soda can also help to restore your towels’ fluffiness.

According to Linens Limited, adding a cup to the washing machine when cleaning towels will aid in breaking down any detergent residue, giving them that hotel-quality feel.

Washing them at the correct temperature can also work wonders for your towels’ texture.

The consumer experts at Which? have sounded the alarm about washing your towels at 60°C, claiming this isn’t always necessary.

Instead, they say you’re better off washing them at 40°C with a bleach-based laundry product which will remove bacteria and viruses, maintaining the freshness of your towels for longer.
