A professional cleaner has shared a sure fire way to get rid of mould stains in grout, especially in the bathroom. Sheridan, the face behind Citrus Keeping in Australia, recently shared her go-to routine for tackling tough mould problems.
While getting rid of mould throughout her shower, she finds that sometimes mould can stain the grout over time. Mould can thrive in the cold, damp areas of your home with minimal ventilation. Not getting rid of mould effectively can lead to a number of health issues, including respiratory problems.
Mould forms when mould spores, which are naturally present in the environment, land on a surface and find a moist, warm environment with organic matter to grow.
Places with condensation, high humidity, and even spilled liquids can provide the necessary moisture the mould needs to develop.
Sheridan’s preferred method of combatting shower mould includes a mixture of water, white vinegar, tea tree oil, and clove oil.
However, when it comes to removing mould stains from grout, she prefers to use a solution with stronger chemicals.
She said: “This is honestly the only time in my housekeeping business that I’ll ever use bleach, and I do it so minimally.”
Firstly you’ll need a few sheets of toilet paper, before folding in half.
Place the toilet paper directly onto the mould stain and spray bleach “minimally” onto the paper so that it sticks to the affected area.
Sheridan said: “This is the perfect hack to keep bleach on grout lines and also vertical silicon lines. Leave it there for five to ten minutes, and when you return the bleach will have taken the colour out of that inactive mould stain.”
Once the stain is lifted, peel off the toilet paper. Use a damp cloth or cold water rinse to get rid of any leftover bleach.
