Asda is set to open at least 526 UK stores on Easter Sunday, but it will close another 580.
The supermarket giant has about 1,106 stores open in the UK according to Asda’s Store Locator including its supermarket superstores, its Asda Express convenience stores and petrol stations and Asda Living homeware stores. Asda has confirmed it will shut 580 stores in the UK on Easter Sunday, which leaves approximately 526 left open including smaller stores in England and Wales and larger stores in Scotland.
Trading laws in England and Wales mean that any shop larger than 280 square metres must close on Easter Sunday, which means 580 Asda stores in England and Wales will be closed this Sunday, April 20.
Government rules for England and Wales on supermarket opening times mean stores can open on Good Friday, Bank Holiday Monday and this Saturday, though most are choosing to slightly reduce opening times.
Stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland are not forced to close but will vary opening times in line with Sunday trading hours.
It means that as many as 526 Asda stores will remain open in the UK on Easter Sunday – including stores in Scotland, and smaller stores in England and Wales such as Asda Express petrol stations.
