Asda confirms almost 100 stores are going cashless – full list of affected locations

Popular supermarket chain Asda has confirmed that nearly 100 of its kiosks will be going card-only, as consumers are moving away from cash transactions.

Asda petrol stations are already getting rid of manned tills, with a spokesperson citing the reason being that 90 percent of transactions are made using credit or debit cards.

An Asda spokesperson said: “As more than 90 percent of all payments on our superstore forecourts are made via card or a contactless device, the colleagues who worked on these sites are moving into the store so they can better serve our customers.

“These conversions began in December and we expect to complete the changeover later in 2024.”

There are 82 stores making the switch to ‘pay at pump’ only, but the changes are only affecting forecourts that are adjacent to supermarket stores.

The full list of the 82 stores is below, including 14 stores that have already made the switch to cashless transactions only:

This move comes as the supermarket chain announced a host of convenience store openings this month, with many already open.

The retailer is in the process of converting convenience stores acquired from Co-Op and EG Group to its new ASDA Express brand.

Andy Perry, Asda’s Vice President of Convenience, said: “After pausing our convenience rollout during the festive period, the programme is now in full swing once more.

“We have exciting plans to accelerate the programme over the next couple of months with the aim of converting all 470 stores acquired from the Co-op and EG Group to Asda Express before the end of Q1. We are looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming customers in new locations right across the UK.”
