Chiefs coach Andy Reid said the organization did its homework before signing kicker Justin Tucker to the practice squad after he served a 10-game suspension last season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy following allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior.

The 36-year-old Tucker — who was accused of sexual misconduct by 16 female massage therapists — became eligible to return from suspension in November 2025, after he was released by the Ravens that May.

Reid was vague when asked for details regarding the “homework” he did on Tucker when asked during his Wednesday media availability.

“Listen, I’m not going to get into all that,” Reid said. “But, to bring him in here, I did some homework. I’m not going to get into all that, but I mean, he’s here and he’s on the practice squad. So we roll with it.”

Reid explained that the Chiefs “talked to a lot of people” when asked about team ownership’s involvement in the move.

“We try to do our homework the best way we possibly can and talk to a lot of people and make sure things are OK,” Reid said.

When asked about the message the Tucker signing sends to women in Kansas City, Reid wouldn’t elaborate.

“He’s done his suspension, you know, took care of that business there. I’ll leave it at that for you,” Reid said.

One reporter asked Reid about his decision process after mentioning that the coach has a long history of giving second chances.

“I try to do homework on it and see exactly what has been — what’s taken place since,” Reid said. “But you know, I mean, the kid, he served a suspension. It’s been time. There’s been time involved with it. So that’s how I value it.”

Reid added that he did not speak to the team before signing Tucker.

“I’ve got a good locker room first of all they get it,” Reid said when asked if this will be a distraction. “I don’t allow secrets from the guys. I keep trying to be honest with them and normally that has worked out for a couple years.”

The Chiefs brought in three kickers amid a career-worst start to the season for Harrison Butker.

“Tucker did really well,” Reid said, adding that the team’s kicker situation “fluid” and Butker’s “technique is off a bit.”

Butker will get most of the first team reps, and play this week against the Broncos, Reid said.

Tucker hasn’t played since he was released by the Ravens last May.

The allegations of sexual misconduct against Tucker became public in January 2025.

Tucker was accused of sexual misconduct by 16 female massage therapists across eight spas and wellness centers in the Baltimore area, according The Baltimore Banner.

The NFL opened an investigation after the report.

Tucker called the allegations “unequivocally false” in a statement on X at the time. That post has since been deleted.

“It is with all of that in mind that the allegations against me are so shocking and heart-breaking,” Tucker told Outkick last February. “I maintain I did not act inappropriately at any point before, during, or after a professional bodywork treatment session, nor have I ever been told I am unwelcome at any massage therapy provider.”

Tucker’s wife Amanda stood by her husband.

“The false allegations against Justin have caused so much hurt to our family,” she told OutKick. “I believe my husband, and I love and support him fully.”

Tucker, a seven-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro, ranks second all-time in field goal percentage (89.1 percent) and is 14th in field goals made (417).
