Aldi has launched a new collection of ‘winter warmer’ SpecialBuy items, aimed at ensuring shoppers remain cosy at home throughout the colder months. The range includes an electronic dehumidifier, designed to speed up clothes drying, reduce mould and enhance air quality by absorbing excess moisture.
While a wide variety of dehumidifiers is available on the market, Aldi has introduced one as part of its latest SpecialBuy middle aisle selection. Priced at £89.99, the Midi Dehumidifier is now available for purchase in stores, reports the Mirror.
The UK recently endured a particularly frosty spell of weather, with the Met Office issuing numerous snow and ice warnings. This week’s forecast predicts milder but wetter conditions due to unsettled low pressure arriving from the Atlantic.
In such weather, many households across the nation crank up their central heating and resort to indoor clothes drying on radiators or heated airers to evade hefty energy bills. However, this can lead to increased moisture in the air, often causing condensation and mould within homes.
Dehumidifiers are beneficial in improving air quality by eliminating surplus moisture. This prevents the growth of mould, mildew, and dust mites, which can exacerbate allergies and hinder breathing.
Aldi’s newly-released 200W dehumidifier boasts a two-litre reservoir and is capable of extracting up to twelve litres of moisture daily, making it ideal for controlling humidity levels during the chillier seasons. Its integrated wheels enable easy transportation between different rooms.
Additional specifications include an ‘easy-to-use’ touch-screen interface, a ‘whisper-quiet’ setting, a child safety lock, an overflow safeguard and automatic power-off once the reservoir reaches capacity. Positioning it alongside wet washing can accelerate drying times for those looking to cut costs by avoiding tumble dryer usage.
This dehumidifier is available only while supplies last. As is typical with SpecialBuys, availability is limited.
A representative from Aldi commented: “For speedy drying and to manage moisture in the air during colder months, shoppers can choose the Midi Dehumidifier (£89.99). Designed to help manage moisture at home during the colder months, it can remove up to 12 litres of water a day and has a 2L tank, adjustable humidity settings, a 24-hour timer and a quiet operating mode for use around the house.
“The unit also comes with wheels for easy movement, a simple touch-screen display and a drainage hose for continuous use, making it a useful addition for keeping spaces comfortable and helping clothes dry more quickly.”
Martin Lewis has previously recommended using dehumidifiers because they are significantly cheaper than tumble dryers. He even calls tumble dryers “demon appliances” because they use so much energy. Dehumidifiers can cost a few pennies per hour, while tumble dryers can cost pounds.
The consumer watchdog Which? explains that dehumidifiers extract surplus moisture from indoor air, assisting in tackling condensation, preventing mould formation and minimising dampness on wall surfaces. Consumers can select between two primary varieties: refrigerant or desiccant models.
The organisation elaborates: “Refrigerant dehumidifiers work by creating a cold surface; when warm, damp air comes into contact with it, water condenses and drips into the water tank. They typically struggle in colder spaces, such as cellars.
“Desiccant: This type has a desiccant wheel that absorbs moisture from the air. An internal heater and fan drive moisture off the wheel so the process can be repeated. They are effective in both warm and cold spaces.”
