Aldi is set to give British shoppers a taste of their favourite morning treat on the house this week – in a cheeky move to outdo a fast-food chain competitor. Embarking on a nation-wide hash-brown giveaway, Aldi’s campaign kicks off in the capital this Thursday, May 29, serving up complimentary Oakhurst Breakfast Hash Browns right outside the doors of McDonald’s eateries throughout the day.
Aldi UK’s Chief Commercial Officer, Julie Ashfield, commented: “Brits love their hash browns and our Oakhurst Breakfast Hash Browns have developed quite the loyal following, with over half a million breakfast hash browns sold in store per week.” She added: “That’s why our hash brown van has been designed with one purpose – to bring the nation their crispy potato fix at any time of the day, not just before 11am.”
With McDonald’s famed breakfast menu coming to a halt at 11am sharp, Aldi’s “Al-day” hash brown truck swoops in to satisfy those late-morning cravings, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Rolling up at selected Golden Arches locations from the stroke of 11:01am on Thursday, May 29, just as McDonald’s wraps up its breakfast offerings, Aldi’s mobile eatery will be dishing out hot, gratis hash browns to any fast-food enthusiasts who’ve overslept. The idea for the bold hash-brown venture was inspired by Aldi’s own research that exposed the widespread “great breakfast frustration” Brits face when they don’t make the breakfast menu window.
Aldi’s survey has uncovered that a whopping 62% of Brits reckon 11am is far too premature to cease the breakfast service, with nearly a quarter (22%) advocating for an all-day breakfast menu. Capital FM’s very own @aimeevivian couldn’t help but rave about Aldi’s hash browns on TikTok, exclaiming: “It’s another run don’t walk to Aldi! I love a cheeky maccy’s hash brown as a treat. So to find these in @Aldi UK was a touch!”.
Fellow TikTokers were quick to concur in the comments section, with one user declaring: “These are perfect and taste better than maccies”, while another added: “they are so nice just like maccys.” The Aldi hash brown extravaganza is set to commence in London come Thursday morning, before rolling out to further UK destinations.
