Aldi to close more than 1,000 stores on two dates over Christmas – when's your local shut?

Aldi is one of the most popular supermarkets for Christmas shopping, renowned for its low prices and “dupes” of branded items.

But with so many customers flocking to its range of 1,000 UK supermarkets, staff need a well-earned break over the festive period.

The retailer has adjusted its opening hours from this week until January 2, 2024, to observe the bank holiday dates.

While most Aldi branches will operate the same trading times, there may be some variation in local stores so it’s worth checking before taking a trip to the shops.

That said, these are the confirmed hours revealed by the supermarket for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and beyond.

Aldi Christmas opening hours

A statement from the supermarket read that Aldi stores across the UK will be open as usual until Saturday, December 23.

This means stores will welcome customers from 8am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday for their festive shopping needs.

However, there are some changes to trading hours from Sunday, December 24 on Christmas Eve, when Aldi branches will open one and a half hours later than usual.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, Aldi shoppers will find that their local will remain completely closed.

Aldi New Year’s opening hours

After Christmas, trading hours will resume to between 8am and 8pm every day between Wednesday, December 27 and Saturday, December 30.

But this will change again on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day when another bank holiday will take place.

  • December 29 – 8am to 8pm
  • December 30 – 8am to 8pm
  • New Year’s Eve (December 31) – 9.30am to 4pm
  • New Year’s Day (January 1) – closed
