Aldi is set to buy about 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores across the Southeast in a deal with parent company Southeastern Grocers, the retailer announced Wednesday.
“The time was right to build on our growth momentum and help residents in the Southeast save on their grocery bills,” Aldi CEO Jason Hart said in a news release.
The acquisition includes 400 grocery stores located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, the release said. The deal is expected to close in 2024. The company will convert some stores to Aldi chains, but other locations will continue to operate as Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores, Hart said.

New Aldi locations nationwide
Hart said the company is also planning to add 120 new stores nationwide in 2023, which will bring its total to more than 2,400 Aldi locations across the country.
