Aldi is alerting customers to a brand new sticker they are likely to see in stores down one particular aisle. The budget supermarket has teamed up with a charity to help raise awareness and funds for a good cause.
Taking to TikTok to share the news, Aldi uploaded a lighthearted video of staff members telling shoppers of a new green label they’ll start to see in the bakery section. On boxes of Cuthbert the Caterpillar chocolate cakes, there will now be a sticker with a number to donate.
In the caption, the store explained: “Cuthbert has got a shiny new sticker so you can text ‘ALDI3’ to 70490 to donate £3 to @Teenage Cancer Trust to help support their incredible work! PS: No Cuthberts were harmed in the making of this video.”
In the comment section, many people praised Aldi for the kind incentive. The official account for Teenage Cancer Trust replied: “Love this addition to Cuthbert. Thank you so much for your continued support.”
Aldi has been in partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust since 2017, when it initially pledged to raise £5 million in five years. Aldi reached this milestone 1.5 years early and in turn pledged to raise £10 million by 2027.
Aldi then reached this milestone nearly three years early, so the supermarket has set itself a new goal of raising £20 million by 2031. To date, the partnership has raised £12 million for Teenage Cancer Trust. Aldi hopes the new sticker will help provide a financial boost.
Money raised throughout the partnership will go towards helping the charity “reach every young person with cancer.” Aldi also supports Teenage Cancer Trust by providing monthly Aldi vouchers to all 28 units, which allows funded staff to provide snacks and put on social events for young people staying in the units.
There is also the Aldi Rainbow Fund, which provides vouchers to families struggling financially and provides an emergency stopgap until they can gain access to further support.
A spokesperson for the charity adds: “Currently, not all young people with cancer across the UK are treated within our units, and many still don’t have access to expert, specialist care. We intend to provide Teenage Cancer Trust Nurses to reach all young people with cancer, wherever they live.”
