Aldi has confirmed it will be closing all of its stores across the UK for three days over the festive period this year. The supermarket has announced its opening hours during the Christmas week and will be closing all of its stores on Christmas Day, December 25 and on Boxing Day, December 26. The closures are to allow its staff to spend time with friends and family over the Christmas period. Aldi will then reopen its doors to customers as normal on Saturday, December 27.
Stores will remain open for the remainder of December before closing once again on New Year’s Day, January 1. Stores will then reopen again as normal on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Rebecca Heley, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “Christmas is a special time, and we want to ensure all of our colleagues have the opportunity to relax and enjoy it with their loved ones. That’s why all Aldi stores will be closed on Boxing Day this year.
“We know how hard colleagues work to deliver an amazing Christmas for our customers, and this is one small way of saying thank you.”
Aldi has also said in addition to closing its UK stores for three days over the festive period, its opening hours will vary in the days leading up to Christmas.
Most supermarkets operate on different opening hours around Christmas time and Aldi is no exception, with the budget supermarket set to operate extended hours to allow customers to stock up on everything they need ahead of the big day.
Aldi’s normal opening hours are from 8am until 10pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday, but this may vary in the run-up to Christmas.
Aldi shoppers are advised to check the opening hours of their local store online before visiting using the supermarket’s store finder.
The announcement on Christmas opening hours comes after Aldi this month granted a pay rise to its UK staff, with starting pay for Store Assistants rising from £12.75 to £13.02 per hour nationally, and from £14.05 an hour to £14.35 in London, increasing to £14.66 with length of service.
It marks the second pay increase for Aldi store colleagues this year, underlining Aldi’s position as the highest-paying supermarket in the UK.
Aldi is also the only retailer to offer all colleagues paid breaks, which is worth approximately £1,425 a year for the average store colleague.
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “Our colleagues are at the heart of our success, and we’re committed to ensuring they are fully rewarded for the outstanding work they do. Today’s higher than planned pay rise is part of our promise to never be beaten on pay.”
