Africa’s ‘best’ safari with ‘rare’ animals and ‘breathtaking’ scenery | World | News

The best safari in Africa has been revealed – and it is one that visitors have praised for its vast array of wildlife and stunning scenery. African countries are the go-to for safaris with destinations like Zambia, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya all proving to be popular for people who want this kind of holiday experience. However, one safari trumps the rest when it comes to what it has on offer.

Not only is it beautiful to look at, this place actually has one of the world’s largest animal migrations, a sight that not many people have been blessed enough to witness with their own eyes. There are hundreds of national parks dotted around the continent of Africa, with many of them offering safari experiences from budget options to more luxurious experiences. When it comes to the most amazing wildlife, unforgettable experiences and stunning scenery, the best safari in Africa is Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.

The Serengeti is an iconic African landmark and stretches to a whopping 5,700 square miles. Established in 1940, the park is home to the famous Great Migration, which sees roughly 1.5 million wildebeest and 250,000 zebras start to migrate north towards Maasai Mara in Kenya, something that is magnificent to see.

Serengeti National Park welcomes more than 300,000 visitors each year but with African travel on the rise, this number may well increase over the coming years and decades as travellers look for new and exciting experiences.

Safari Bookings has named the Serengeti as the best safari destination in Africa for 2025. They list a number of reasons for this, including its “iconic wildlife spectacle” as well as the “sheer density of animals” which makes for “incredible wildlife viewing throughout the year.”

Expert Philip Briggs says of the national park: “The southern plains near Seronera are the most popular, but it’s also worth exploring the Western Corridor and Mara River regions.”

He adds: “Serengeti’s immense landscape is simply stunning. This big-sky, untamed wilderness is renowned for its grassland plains punctuated with rocky outcrops (koppies) in the southeast.

“The Western Corridor follows the Grumeti and Mbalageti Rivers with associated riverine forests toward Lake Victoria, while the Lobo Hills area is characterized by big granite boulders reaching up in the sky. Farther north the Mara River sets the scene for the infamous river crossings, the ultimate highlight of the wildebeest migration.”

Reviewers on Tripadvisor have had similar thoughts about the Serengeti. One person wrote: “The Serengeti was on our all-time favorite bucket list and I am so glad that we finally took the opportunity and booked our vacation. The landscape itself starts with those endless plains that the Masai people described when they called it Siringit.”

Another said: “What an amazing safari trip we had. Majestic place. We saw hundreds of animals on our way.”

Meanwhile, a review left on Safari Bookings reads: “The Serengeti is breath-takingly beautiful with sweeping grassy plains, stuffed full of wildlife.

“This reserve is of course synonymous with ‘the migration’ but there is so much more. I have never seen such an abundance of game – so many different antelopes, majestic elephants, more unusual species such as bat eared foxes and serval, and of course the big cats.”

There are budget, mid-range and luxury safari experiences available for those wanting to visit this iconic national park, from camping to high-end lodges available in terms of accommodation. To get to the Serengeti National Park frm the UK, you will most likely fly from London Heathrow with multiple changes before landing in Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

The FCDO says that the majority of Tanzania is safe to travel to but tourists need to stay away from within 20km of the Tanzanian border with Cabo Delgado Province in Mozambique due to “attacks by groups linked with Islamic extremism”.
