A restaurant refused to serve me the food I ordered because I’m pregnant

An expectant mother has taken to TikTok to expose a restaurant’s “messed up” mistake that they made — assuming her dietary requirements as a pregnant woman.

Australian Brittany Terenowski, 31, explained how the awkward situation unfolded at the Freemantle establishment, before asking her followers to weigh in on whether her frustration was justified or if she was “taking it the wrong way.”

“They decided that I shouldn’t eat it and they just took it off”

“I am 23 weeks pregnant,” Terenowski began the clip, which now has 42,000 views.

“I went out to dinner to an Italian restaurant with my sister last Friday night and ordered a side of these chips that came with crispy prosciutto on top.”

But she says there was no prosciutto when the chips came out.

So, she asked the young male waiter why, and he said, “Yes, usually we [have it], but we made a change because…” and then he rubbed his belly and looked at Terenwoski.

“So they decided that I shouldn’t eat it and they just took it off the item that I ordered without telling me, asking me, discussing anything with me,” she said.

“I’ve been making safe choices with professionals”

The Tiktoker explained that her obstetrician and doctor had cleared cured meat as safe for consumption.

“I’ve been making safe choices with those professionals, who are professionally qualified to do so,” she explained.

“I’ve been eating prosciutto and cheese and poached eggs because it’s actually fine.”

She said she also ended up having to pay full price for the chips, even though she didn’t receive the “expensive” topping.

Commenters were split in half

Despite the situation making the mom uncomfortable, not everyone agreed the restaurant was in the wrong.

“That’s really sweet he was thinking of your baby,” said one viewer.

“Maybe they’re protecting themselves from a lawsuit,” a second theorised.

“I think they’re just being considerate,” claimed another.

But some supported her, with one saying, “They had no right to remove that unless you asked them to.”

“You should NEVER assume,” urged someone else.

Then, others shared what they would have done in her situation.

“After I ate, I would stand up and announce, ‘Since we are making choices for each other. I’ve decided your business doesn’t need my money. Thanks for dinner’,” a woman concluded.

“I would have looked them dead in the eye and said I’m not pregnant,” another joked.
