Despite the backlash received from critics over Meghan Markle’s twerking video shared on the day of her daughter’s birthday, an insider believes the video has been a “huge hit” in America.
A source close to the Sussexes told MailOnline: “Meghan is very pleased with the video. In the UK everyone’s reaction has been a bit prudish but everywhere else, particularly in America and especially with young people, it has been a huge hit.”
Meghan published a video of her dancing with Prince Harry while waiting to give birth in a hospital in California. It comes as Meghan is about to launch a series of new products as part of her As Ever brand, having shared teaser photos on Instagram.
The source further added: “She and her team count it [the video] as a ‘win’, which can only be a boost for sales. Her new products are marketed at Americans and not at the UK market.”
Meghan Markle’s video has garnered support from Americans as social media users share their opinions online. As reported in the Daily Mail, one fan wrote: “Meghan doesn’t care about the haters in Britain calling her vulgar. Americans thought the twerking video was hilarious and relatable.”
Another said: “I love this. It’s an incredibly sweet, silly and intimate look into their relationship, something I could never imagine they’d share (a look inside the hospital room of a royal baby’s birth!) but I’m so happy they did.”
Eric Schiffer, of Reputation Management Consultants, said: “Meghan wants to connect with Gen Z which demands viral moments. She doesn’t care about the UK because that’s not where the money is. Brits have certain standards they expect of royalty. Americans don’t care. To us it’s a soap opera.”
On Friday, Meghan posted footage of the two-day trip to Disneyland to celebrate Lilibet’s fourth birthday. The Sussexes enjoyed rides including Space Mountain, Dumbo and Cars Land. There was also a Little Mermaid birthday cake for Lilibet.
The Instagram post also featured Meghan, Harry, Lilibet and Archie, all sporting Mickey Mouse ears and joining in with Disney fun. The family enjoyed several attractions, including the newly updated Splash Mountain, now known as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure since 2024.
They also stopped to meet Star Wars stormtroopers and in one snap, Harry also flashes a cheerful smile in another photo as he turns towards the camera while sitting next to Lillibet on another ride. Another picture was taken to show a pile of corndogs and food on a table, showing that the family ate classic amusement park treats during their special visit.
The visit comes as Meghan is preparing a second drop of her products to be sold on her brand website. Fans are awaiting news of new items, as Meghan starts to share a series of teaser photos on her brand Instagram page for As Ever.
