Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seemingly grown “stronger” after recently losing the appeal to get taxpayer funded security in the UK. The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, are celebrating their seventh wedding anniversary today.
Earlier this month, it emerged that Harry had lost his appeal after previously claiming that he no longer felt safe to bring his wife and their children to his home country without police protection – something he lost when the couple stepped down as senior working royals and moved to the US. Since tying the knot in Windsor, the pair have welcomed two children together – Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, three.
Speaking to the Mirror about Harry and Meghan’s relationship, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: “I think that after all they have been through – however it all came about and whoever you might think is at fault – it has probably made them stronger as a couple.”
Discussing how the pair have distanced themselves from their families, she added: “They have certainly isolated themselves from their respective families so, having burned so many bridges, they must rely ever more heavily on one another. That is quite a weight of responsibility to bear, but I’m sure they both feel that it makes it even more imperative to work hard at their marriage and make it a success.”
Speaking of their ongoing feuds with both of their families, the expert said that the couple likely don’t discuss the tensions – instead focusing on Archie and Lilibet and the “freedom they craved”.
Ms Bond added: “I don’t suppose they waste many hours on discussing the feud with their respective families.
“The crises come and go – but they have their love, their children, their fabulous home, the freedom they craved, and Meghan‘s burgeoning portfolio of new projects to keep them busy.
“It also seems quite extraordinary that it’s only seven years since Meghan walked up that aisle and took her place in the Royal family. It was a day filled with love and hope and she seemed to represent exactly what a modern monarchy needed. So much has happened since that day – and most of it makes very depressing reading.”
Ms Bond also revealed that the pair will likely be snubbed by the royals on their wedding anniversary today.
She added: “I very much doubt that there will be anniversary wishes winging their way from the UK to California.”
