Windows can easily become grimy when the sun is shining, as blooming flowers and people mowing their lawns can stir up dust and pollen that clings to the glass. It may seem simple to give your windows a wipe from the inside, but using the wrong cleaning product can leave streaks and smudges that make the glass look even dirtier.
However, cleaning expert Nancy has shared the key to sparkling clean windows is to ditch chemical products as the best glass cleaner is simple black tea. She said: “Who would have thought that black tea could be used as a window cleaner? I think it’s a great idea—so many people drink it, so they have it on hand, and it’s a great eco-friendly alternative to conventional chemical-laden cleaners.”
It may sound unusual, but black tea can leave glass polished and streak-free without much effort, which makes it one of the easiest ways to clean your windows.
Black tea contains a compound called tannins, which can naturally break down grease and grime that sticks to glass.
If you have any stubborn marks or fingerprints, then black tea can also get rid of them, as it is mildly acidic, so it can dissolve smudges as well.
This is a simple yet effective to clean both windows and glass doors without spending lots of money as everything you need is already sitting in your kitchen.
How to clean windows using black tea
You will need:
- 230ml of water
- Three tea bags of black tea
- A clean and empty spray bottle
Method:
To begin, make a very strong cup of tea. Place three tea bags in a cup of boiling water and let them steep for five minutes.
Let the tea cool down to room temperature, then pour it in a spray bottle. Also prepare a microfiber cloth to clean the glass as they are fantastic at removing dirt from glass without leaving streaks behind.
Then all you have to do is spray a little of the solution of the glass and begin wiping in a circular motion. Any grease, grime or dirt will easily be removed within minutes.
Once you have cleaned the windows, use a dry cloth to buff the glass to dry it to prevent any pollen sticking to it later.
Your windows should now be sparkling clean so you can let more natural light into your home and enjoy the beautiful sunny weather. Black tea will not only work on windows but can also clean mirrors, glass doors and shower doors as well.
Nancy said: “That’s all there is to it! it’s nice to be able to clean your windows using natural ingredients instead of chemicals, isn’t it? This sure comes in handy for spring and summer cleaning.”
