The UK is in for warm weather from April 2 to April 5, with temperatures in the mid to high teens for large areas of the country. Unusually, the warmest weather – 18C according to WX Charts – is predicted to arrive in the far north of Scotland.
Three counties – Sutherland, Ross and Cromarty, and Inverness-shire – could see the country’s top temperatures during what may feel like a mini heatwave. However, although it’ll certainly feel toasty for the time of year, it will not qualify as a proper heatwave as that requires at least three consecutive days of abnormally hot weather, according to the Met Office. Unfortunately, 18C in early April, even in northern Scotland, is below the threshold.
Nevertheless, most of the country will feel hot during the first week of next month. The north-east and north-west of England will see temperatures of between 14C and 17C. South-eastern England will see similar temperatures, as will the Midlands, with the hottest weather arriving on April 5. Northern Ireland, Wales, and the south west of England should see the mercury in the mid-teens too.
The mornings may be cooler across the board with temperatures below 10C, but the sun should shine across the country, raising the heat from noon until around 6pm.
Today:
Low cloud lifting and breaking to allow some brighter spells. Outbreaks of rain in the north gradually easing. But showers developing across southern regions, some heavy and perhaps thundery. Rather warm in the south, cooler in the breeze further north.
Tonight:
Showers in the south easing through the evening and gradually dying out overnight, but with low cloud reforming. Clear spells in the north allowing frost and isolated fog patches.
Monday:
Low cloud slowly clearing across England and Wales to leave a mainly fine day. Sunny start further north, but outbreaks of rain reaching western Scotland and Northern Ireland by mid-afternoon.
Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:
Breezy in the north with further spells of rain possible, though mostly light. Southern regions managing to stay mainly dry. Near-average temperatures and feeling pleasant in any sunny spells.
