According to James Roberts, the director of Sanctuary Bathrooms, one popular household item could remove toilet limescale in a jiffy. Rather than relying on the go-to cleaning solution of white vinegar or baking soda, the cleaning agent James suggested isn’t typically used for cleaning.
The substance James recommended is a popular beverage that many people already have in their homes.”Coca-Cola is an unexpected yet highly effective solution for cleaning toilets,” said James. He added: “It’s a simple, cost-effective alternative to chemical cleaners, making it a great option for those looking for a gentler approach to cleaning.”
How to use Coca-Cola to remove toilet limescale
1. Pour a few glasses of cola directly into the toilet bowl, ensuring the liquid covers all the stained areas.
2. Allow the cola to work its magic for a few hours, ideally overnight. The acids will break down limescale and grime.
3. Use a toilet brush to scrub any remaining stains, then flush for a sparkling clean finish.
While Coca-Cola is recommended for removing toilet limescale, James does not recommend using it for cleaning purposes elsewhere.
If there is limescale around the taps and shower head, James advised using white vinegar instead of Coca-Cola.
“To get rid of limescale build-up, soak an old cloth in white vinegar, wrap it around the taps, and leave it for an hour,” said James.
He continued: “For shower heads, soak them in a vinegar-water mixture overnight to remove deposits and improve water flow.”
White vinegar can also be applied to any part of the shower grout that has turned mouldy.
James said: “Mould thrives in shower grout, making it a tricky area to clean.”
Once you have applied white vinegar to the mouldy grout, you can scrub it clean with a toothbrush.
This will ensure that the shower grout looks lovely and clean again in no time at all.
