With the sunny spell breaking here in the UK, many will be on a quest to escape the damp conditions for sunnier pastures. The spot that offers the ultimate sunshine has been discovered and is officially hailed as being the driest city break in the world.

This was according to Planet Cruise who analysed a number of factors including hours of sunshine, rainfall and average temperatures, to determine the driest city in the world. The research found this popular spot for sun-seekers, nestled in between the Sinai Peninsula desert and the Red Sea in Africa, also has the second least number of rainy days compared to other cities, fell in joint lead position for least rainfall and was also joint third lowest for humidity levels.

Sharm El-Sheikh is an Egyptian city that’s famed for its sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs.

Thanks to its location, it’s no wonder it featured in Planet Cruises’ top ten list of driest city breaks, with only 2 mm per month of rainfall in the winter, 0.33 rainy days per year and low humidity levels of just 40.33%.

It offers idyllic temperatures of 27C in March and is only a five hour plane journey to get to where you’ll be met with pristine beaches and unparalleled hospitality.

As for ways to spend these dry and warm days where you’re almost guaranteed of sunshine – you’ll be spoiled for choice at this seaside resort that’s a firm favourite among Brit tourists.

Tourists rave about Sharm El-Sheikh’s mild temperatures that’s coupled with spring blooms, making  exploring this enchanting destination’s historical landmarks and natural beauty a cinch.

Whether lounging on the beach, climbing Mount Sinai, diving at the Ras Mohammed Marine Park or taking a hedonistic day trip to Dahab, the options are endless.

Why not visit Naama Bay too? It’s filled with endless white sandy beaches that includes a pedestrian-only promenade, making it ideal spot for a family day out.

A visit to the bustling Old Market allows you to immerse yourself within the local culture here with an array of eateries and quaint shops offering traditional crafts, souvenirs and local spices.

Adventure-seekers will be in their element too experiencing the region’s desert landscape which can be explored via a camel safari or a jeep.

For the history buffs, a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Saint Catherine’s Monastery comes highly recommended and is a great way to learn more about the region’s history in one of the world’s oldest working monasteries.

According to Planet Cruise’s ten driest city breaks, these include:

  1. Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt
  2. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
  3. Mumbai, India
  4. Jaipur, India
  5. Siem Reap, Cambodia
