Royal fans are all saying the same thing today as King Charles’s equerry Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson announces his engagement.
The news, shared today in The Times, confirmed that Major Johnny Thompson, often dubbed “Major Eye Candy” by royal watchers, is now engaged to his girlfriend Olivia Lewis.
The announcement read: “The engagement is announced between Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Lewis OBE of Primrose Hill, London.”
The aide, who has been involved with the Royal Family for several years, has been one of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland since 2006 and was previously one of the late Queen Elizabeth’s most senior bodyguards.
He moved to a less public-facing role for the King earlier this year as he did not like the attention he was receiving online.
His fiancee, who is now a PR executive, also used to work for the 75-year-old monarch and Queen Camilla.
According to the Mail, her father, Simon Lewis, was Queen Elizabeth’s former communications head after Princess Diana’s death in 1997.
While many royal fans rushed to social media today to congratulate the couple, some joked that the news meant they no longer had a chance to win the hearts of the equerry.
One fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Johnny is getting married? Hearts are breaking.”
Another user said: “Blast! I should have made more effort.”
One royal enthusiast shared a meme of Regina George from Mean Girls crying and blowing her nose with a tissue. She captioned it: “I’m happy for them! Well, I will be!”
No date for the wedding has yet been confirmed.
