Foreign Office travel warning for France after Eurostar chaos | Europe | Travel

A travel warning has been issued to Brits heading to France following chaos on the Eurostar. It comes after a cable theft caused even more cancellations after two people were fatally struck by trains.

British travellers have been warned of “severe delays” on Wednesday while some Eurostar services will be cancelled completely. Two people were hit by trains between Lille and Paris on Tuesday night, before a cable theft on Wednesday morning. Some passengers have been left stranded with at least three trains already cancelled.

As reported by GB News, the Foreign Office said: “Eurostar services to and from France will be severely disrupted today (June 25) with some services cancelled. Check your operator’s advice before travelling, including where you are taking connecting trains.”

Trains were disrupted between London St Pancras International and Paris’ Gare Du Nord on Tuesday evening. Trains were also cancelled on Wednesday morning with one person complaining that their elderly mother was left stuck in Paris.

Eurostar has recently apologised for the “total chaos due to two accidents involving people and a cable theft”. The train operator said: “Our trains are likely to be subject to severe delays and last-minute cancellations.

“We advise you to cancel or postpone your trip. We’re very sorry for the impact on your journeys today.”

A number of frustrated passengers have taken to social media. Some accused Eurostar of dealing with the situation “poorly” while others claimed to have been stuck for over five hours.

One Brit wrote: “This was handled poorly, little communication, bad announcements for those of us stuck on trains with no food as sold out, no running water and a bad website to file a claim.

“I will never use this service again after the poor communication and experience.”

A second said: “I’m going to need my full ticket refunded and compensation. I’ve been stuck on this train for five hours and there will now be another three hour delay.”
