24-stone grandad's incredible transformation after living off of crisps and chocolate

Terry Burt had always struggled with his weight. He piled on the pounds through his love of crisps, chocolate and sweets.

At his heaviest, the 68-year-old from Denton weighed 24 stone. Deciding enough was enough, Terry embarked on a weight loss journey with his wife Angela.

In March 2022, the pair signed up to Greater Manchester and Cheshire slimming group Beeweighed. After some simple lifestyle tweaks, Terry lost just over seven stone.

He told Manchester Evening News: “I’ve had to buy a whole new wardrobe. I’ve had to get loads of new clothes. The good thing about it is that I’ve kept it off. I’ve maintained it. I feel fit and healthy; I feel really, really good. I can’t thank Lynda at Beeweighed enough.

“You have the support 24/7. I can look in the mirror and in shop windows at myself now. I wouldn’t have done that two years ago because my belly used to stick out like a sore thumb. I was so self-conscious.”

Terry now weighs in at 16 stone and has lost 10 inches from his waist and chest.

He hopes to lose another stone within the next year through regular exercise and sticking to 1,600 calories a day.

The grandad, who works for a chemist delivering prescriptions, said he swims two to three times a week which has helped him along his weight loss journey.

When it comes to diet, he sticks to eating healthy meals including pasta, chicken, fish, jacket potatoes and lots of vegetables.

He said: “I used to have a lot of bread. I still have bread but they are 50kcal a slice. My biggest drama was watching telly with crisps, chocolate and sweets. At Beeweighed, you can do whatever suits you. You’re not denied access to anything.

“I’ve got a lot more energy and I’m comfortable. It’s cost me a fortune in clothes, though – I’ve had to get rid of a lot of stuff and get new shirts, etc. I’m fitting into clothes I’ve not worn for four or five years.”

Beeweighed owner Lynda Leadbetter added: “I couldn’t be prouder of his dedication and hard work. Beyond the amazing transformation, Terry’s warmth and kindness make him a cherished member of our group.

“He not only inspires with his own journey, but also motivates and supports others in the group. Terry is full of positivity and we’re proud to have him at BeeWeighed Denton group meeting.”

“My enthusiasm so far has not dropped an ounce. I’ve not thought, ‘Sod this, I’m not doing this’. It works and I’m happy.
