12-year-old charged with armed robbery after pointing BB gun at woman's face in North Carolina

Police in North Carolina say they are investigating an armed robbery in which a 12-year-old boy pointed a BB gun at a woman’s face while he was accompanied by his 6-year-old brother.

The crime took place at 8 a.m. Sunday outside an apartment complex about 10 miles south of downtown Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported.

During a Monday news conference, police Capt. Jason Helton said a woman returning home from working a night shift was walking in the parking lot when the boys approached her and asked her to borrow her cell phone to call their mother.

When she handed them the phone, Helton said, the boys took off running.
