Zara Tindall may be the niece of King Charles, but she is not too dissimilar from the rest of us. As well as being a doting mother and wife, Zara, 44, is also known for having a great sense of humour, especially when it comes to her husband Mike Tindall. While only some of their lives are shared publicly as a result of Zara not being a working royal, the Olympic equestrian doesn’t shy away from sharing some great stories and insights into her marriages.

Speaking at a recent charity dinner, Princess Anne’s daughter revealed how she once asked guards at St James’s Palace to wake her husband Mike Tindall up after he overslept after a night on the booze. Mike, 46, had been out with a friend in London until 4am, despite the fact he had to do a coaching clinic at 8.30am the next day.

He had stayed in Princess Anne’s royal apartment at the Palace.

As reported by The Mirror, Zara revealed at a charity dinner: “He overslept and was staying at St James’s Palace. Our PR girl was like ‘Where is he?’.

“I rang the police at St James’s and said ‘Can you wake Mike up?’ He was in my mum’s flat. They let themselves in. He says they came in with guns.”

Mike also once recalled the story once while speaking at a DEBRA fundraiser organised to aid those living with epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

He said: “I was meant to be there (the coaching clinic) in 45 minutes. My friend rings up Zara, who phoned the police post at the palace.”

He continued: “They started giggling, saying they saw me at 4am on video cameras struggling to get to the doorway. She says, ‘I don’t care what you do. He needs to be in North London in 35 minutes.’

“Next thing, five guys in full riot gear with machine guns come in saying, ‘Get up, get up’. I was, like, ‘F***!’.

“And in three minutes, I was in the back of a cab, with the police waving me off.”

Mike and Zara are considered to be among one of the most popular royal couples, despite not having any official titles. They share three children together – Mia, 11, Lena, six, and Lucas, four.
