Zara and Mike Tindall are set to embark on an exciting trip to Australia shortly after spending Christmas celebrations with family, the royal couple will not be taking their children on their Australian adventure.

Mia, 10, Lena, six, and three-year-old Lucas will be at home in the UK while their parents attend Magic Millions, an equestrian festival.

Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest granddaughter sat down with the Australian Financial Review to confirm she will return to the Gold Coast for Magic Millions in January.

The outlet confirmed: “She and Mike will have to leave the children at home again when they visit Australia, after Christmas with the Royal Family in Sandringham, since school starts again in January.”

Sporty Zara has been involved with Magic Millions for over a decade and is patron of the Magic Millions Racing Women initiative.

Previously expressing her love for Australia, the mum-of-three said: “We love the lifestyle and the weather obviously is incredible. It’s just very relaxed. We’ve got a lot of friends out there.”

But Mike and Zara have been tentative about re-locating across the world. She told Hello! Magazine: “Never say never but it’s not on the cards, people try to say that we almost did, but we never almost did. It’s never been an actual thing where we’ve looked for a house or anything.”

“We love Australia a lot and we love the lifestyle, I think it’s brilliant for kids but whether we could actually move there, we’re not sure.”

Australia holds fond memories for Zara as the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Sydney was where Zara met her future husband Mike at a local pub in Sydney.

The Olympic equestrian and the ex-England rugby player are perhaps best known for their down-to-earth personas on the royal circuit – and their love of sport.

The decision to not grant a royal title to either Zara or Peter was made by mum Princess Anne and her first husband Captain Mark Phillips with the support of Elizabeth II.

It is believed Anne and Mark opted against royal titles for their children to give Zara and Peter a more normal life.

Zara was previously interviewed by former rugby player Rob Burrow on his Total Sport podcast. She explained: “From my point of view, I was obviously very lucky that my mother didn’t give us any titles so I really commend her on that.”

She added: “We were very lucky that we got to do it a bit our own way.”

Zara Tindall, Patron of Magic Millions Racing Women and world-class equestrienne, champions the Magic Millions initiative year-round globally and in January each year at The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast.
