If you happen to have a Roku TV Stick plugged into the back of your telly, then it’s worth checking out what’s new. The firm has just announced the launch of 40 bonus channels, and all are available to view without paying any extra subscription fees. You’ll find the boost through The Roku Channel and the new Live TV Zone.

Of course, the new service has been made possible thanks to these being FAST (Free Ad Supported Television) channels. That means they have adverts, so you will have to sit through some sponsored messages before you can view any content.

So what’s available via this free upgrade? Well, it’s actually better than you might think. Roku has confirmed that its users will be able to watch entertainment and sports via the service.

There are shows such as Deal or No Deal, Fear Factor, The Bold and the Beautiful, plus Unsolved Mysteries and Untold Stories of the ER. It also includes PGA TOUR golf, TNA Wrestling, MLB action.

“Roku has launched 40+ brand-new Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) channels in the UK – all completely free to watch, with no subscriptions or sign-ups required,” Roku confirmed

“Available now through The Roku Channel and the new Live TV Zone, these channels offer something for everyone – from sports and entertainment to classic dramas, lifestyle content, true crime, and nature shows – all with no cost, no sign-ups, and no hassle.”

You shouldn’t need to update the device or reboot anything – this upgrade should appear automatically.

There’s more good news if you want to watch more content without paying. Virgin Media is currently offering full access to a swathe of premium kids channels for the whole of October without any extra fees.

Sky has also just announced that from now until October 16, Sky Essential TV customers can access Sky Ultimate TV at no extra cost.

There’s no action required, all Sky Essential TV customers will have access to Sky Ultimate TV and 35+ extra channels.
