There’s a game-changing update coming to MacBooks this week with the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on these popular laptops. This action-packed role-playing game first arrived on consoles all the way back in 2020 and has since gone on to sell a whopping 30 million copies worldwide.
Now it will be available to play on any M-powered Apple laptops – such as the M1, M2 and M3 Pro and Air devices – for the very first time. As an added bonus, those downloading the game will also get access to the spy-thriller Phantom Liberty expansion as well which introduces a new district to the game’s open world.
For those out of the loop, Cyberpunk 2077 was developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt. It’s based on Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop game series, and is set in the fictional metropolis of Night City in California. You play as a cyberpunk mercenary who is wrapped up in a do-or-die fight for survival.
Despite some issues during its initial launch, the original title was universally praised by critics for its narrative, setting, gameplay and graphics.
Those who now play Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Mac will be treated to all free content and updates that have since been released.
There’s also support for features like frame generation and Mac exclusives, such as built-in head-tracked Spatial Audio, which should help to bring this top-rated title to life.
Other bonuses of playing this game on the latest M-powered Macs are the graphics and overall performance.
Thanks to Apple’s impressive silicon, gamers should be treated to smooth gameplay and improved visuals – there’s even the ability to play things at an impressive 120 frames per second.
Cyberpunk 2077 and its spy-thriller expansion Phantom Liberty will be available on 17 July on the Mac App Store.
If it’s a rip-roaring success, it could usher in a new era of gaming on the Mac. Watch this space.
