This challenging puzzle could leave you stumped as it invites you to work out how much each member of a family should receive in inheritance.
The brainteaser, which was originally spotted on Reddit, is as follows: A man dies, leaving almost £8,000 to be divided between his widow, four daughters and three sons.
He stipulated that each daughter should receive twice as much as their mum, and each son twice as much as their mother.
If the exact amount left was £7,936, how much should the widow receive?
Scroll down for the answer.
The answer is that the widow would receive £529. To reach this amount, you would divide £7,936 by 15 – two parts for each of the seven children and one for the mum.
If you divide £7,936 by 15, then you get £529.066. Each child would get twice this amount – £1,058.13. This represents double the mum’s total.
