A tricky new optical illusion has left many scratching their heads as they struggle to count the number of balls within an image which proves to be highly misleading.

Optical illusions are a visual phenomena where your eyes perceive an image differently than it is in reality, leading to a misinterpretation of its shape, size, motion, or colours by the brain.

These illusions occur due to the way the brain processes visual information, often influenced by context, perspective, light, and patterns.

The optical enigma was posted on X, fuelling debate and varying opinions amongst people on the ball count in the image. Do you reckon you can solve the riddle?

Debuted by @quiz_riddles, the post displayed an array of multi-hued spheres configured into a pyramid shape. Accompanying text inquired: “How many balls can you see here? “.

In the comment thread, some eagle-eyed users dived headfirst into calculating the precise tally of spheres, considering the 3D arrangement’s concealment of certain balls.

They speculated that a total of 10 balls formed the pyramid’s base, followed by six on the second tier, three for the third, topping off with a single sphere at the apex culminating in 20 balls altogether, reports the Mirror.

So, are you able to count the number of balls?

The correct solution to this puzzle is a surprising 16.

Sharing the solution on X, the poster stated: “The word ‘SEE’ cleverly adds a layer of confusion to this brain teaser. Answer: 16.”
