Yellowstone star Neal McDonough has officially joined the cast of Jimmy, the upcoming biopic about classic Hollywood icon James Stewart.
Actor McDonough is best known to TV fans as the villain Malcolm Beck in the hit Paramount Network Western series.
He has also appeared in the second season of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s Sylvester Stallone-led crime drama Tulsa King as well as 9-1-1: Lone Star and American Horror Story.
The actor is on board to portray Stewart’s father Alexander, a devoutly religious business-owner, opposite Riverdale’s KJ Apa in the leading role.
He took to social media to repost the official announcement from the film’s Instagram account, featuring an image of a clapperboard and the caption: “And we’re rolling — It’s a Wonderful Day 1 on set.”
McDonough’s casting was announced alongside a crop of several famous names joining the cast as Jimmy heads into production.
Happy Gilmore 2’s Christopher McDonald will play fellow Hollywood star Lionel Barrymore, while Chicago Fire’s Kara Killmer is taking on the role of Lady Julia.
Comedy star Rob Riggle will portray US Army Colonel Terrill and another famed Hollywood star Ginger Rogers will be played by Jemma Donovan.
Currently filming in West Cork, Ireland, the film is being directed by Aaron Burns.
He said in a statement this week: “There is something special about the way our amazing cast has immediately connected deeply with our story and with one another.
“Being in Ireland allows us to have the feel of England in the 1940s, and with our beautiful costumes and sets, I feel like we’ve stepped back into Jimmy Stewart’s world.”
The previously announced cast also includes Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer, Max Casella as Frank Capra, Sarah Drew as Hedda Hopper, Julian Works as Second Lieutenant Martinez and Jen Lilley as Gloria Stewart.
The film will follow Stewart as he tackles Hollywood fame throughout the 1940s before he enlists in the US Army Air Corps during the Second World War.
Screenwriter Justin Strawhand said: “Jimmy lived the lives of a hundred men, with courage and conviction.
“Working with Aaron, our producing team, and our incredibly talented cast and crew to bring his story to screen is the privilege of a lifetime.”
One of Stewart’s daughters, Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, is on board as an executive producer.
Jimmy does not yet have a release date.
