Xbox Game Pass is back with more big games but PlayStation Plus closes the gap

Microsoft has just announced the new Game Pass titles coming to Xbox Series X and Series S in the first half of June.

After months of strong releases, the next batch of games isn’t quite on the same level, but there are some heavy-hitters. This includes EA Sports FC 25 and Crash Bandicoot 4.

It all begins right now with the addition of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions. These classic role-playing games feature improved visuals and quality of life changes.

The releases continue on June 10, when Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition joins the service.

“Step into the armour of a relentless Space Marine and use a combination of lethal weaponry to crush overwhelming Ork forces,” reads the official description.

“Immerse yourself in an intense and brutally violent world based on the richest science fantasy ever created. Enhanced for a new generation, this edition brings quality of life & graphical improvements.”

Barbie Project Friendship and Kingdom: Two Crowns join the service on June 11, followed by the aforementioned EA Sports FC 25 on June 12.

Next up is the day-one release of The Alters on June 13. This brand new release is described as a “sci-fi survival game”, where you play as a human stranded on a hostile alien planet.

Players will be able to create alternative versions of the main character Jan, who will need to gather resources and overcome various moral dilemmas. It sounds like an interesting twist on the survival formula.

FBC: Firebreak is another day-one release coming to Xbox Game Pass on June 17. It will be available for PS Plus Extra subscribers on the same day. FBC: Firebreak is a Control spinoff featuring first-person shooter elements and co-operative play.

Microsoft explains more: “A cooperative first-person shooter set within a mysterious federal agency under assault by otherworldly forces.

“As a years-long siege on the agency’s headquarters reaches its boiling point, only Firebreak — the Bureau’s most versatile unit — has the gear and the guts to plunge into the building’s strangest crises, restore order, contain the chaos, and fight to reclaim control.”

Finally, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time and Lost in Random join Xbox Game Pass on June 17.

Lost in Random: The Eternal Die is said to blend “dynamic real-time action, tactical combat, and risk-reward dice mechanics for thrilling second-to-second battles”.

With Sony revealing additional titles for PS Plus as part of the recent Days of Play and State of Play events, the battle between PS5 and Xbox is much closer than previous months.

From the makers of Journey, Sword of the Sea will join PS Plus in August, while classics like Resident Evil 2 and 3, Twisted Metal 3 and 4, and Deus Ex will join the Premium line-up throughout the summer.
