Wrexham launch bid for Man City star as Ryan Reynolds’ spending grows to £35m this summer | Football | Sport

Wrexham are reportedly on the verge of securing a remarkable deal for Manchester City defender Callum Doyle as their summer spending spree gathers pace. The Welsh outfit have been throwing money around this summer after earning promotion to the Championship.

Wrexham have already splashed approximately £20m during the transfer window, whilst they’ve also shattered their club record fee with a £7.5m move for Ipswich’s Nathan Broadhead. However, it seems they’re not done yet.

The Athletic reports that the Championship outfit are now on the brink of an £8m swoop for Man City prospect Callum Doyle.

Rangers and Sheffield United have also shown interest, but Wrexham appear to have emerged victorious in the battle for his signature.

Doyle, 21, came through City’s youth system having spent his entire development at the club. Yet he’s managed only two first-team outings for the side. His loan spells have proved more fruitful though.

He helped fire Sunderland to promotion in 2022, before reaching the Championship play-off final the subsequent campaign with Coventry.

The defender then moved to Leicester, claiming the Championship title, whilst he spent the previous season on loan at Norwich City.

Speaking during the summer, he confessed he was prepared for a fresh challenge.

“I think (a permanent move) is the next aim for me,” Doyle told the Pink Un. “It’s my fourth loan now, and I’ve been all over the country.

“I’ve got nothing to say bad about this club. I love it. I’ve loved playing here and at Carrow Road. The fans are great, so you never know (about a return). It just depends on what happens in the summer, to be honest.”

In other news, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has expressed his desire to bring in additional players to the Racecourse Ground before next month’s deadline. He stated: “We’re looking across the board. We probably do need a couple more players, we’re looking at that.

“It’s ongoing, it’s obviously busy for all managers and clubs at the moment when you’re preparing for games and looking to improve the squad. The lads we’ve brought in at the moment are really good and I’m pleased with the way they’ve settled in.”

Wrexham have suffered defeats in their first two Championship matches. They were narrowly beaten by Southampton in the dying moments before succumbing to Norwich City.

Their quest for their maiden victory of the season continues this weekend as they face troubled Sheffield Wednesday.
