A stunning European city has claimed the title of the world’s “most liveable destination” according to the Global Cities Index, largely thanks to its pedestrian-friendly streets. The research took into account six crucial criteria: life expectancy, income per person, income equality, recreational and cultural amenities, internet speed, and housing costs.

Although European cities largely dominate the list, one Australian city also secured a place in the rankings, previously reported by the Express.

10. Nantes

Nantes, a lively city in western France, is celebrated for its rich history, cultural attractions, and bustling urban life. The Château des Ducs de Bretagne, once home to the Dukes of Brittany, now hosts the Nantes History Museum.

It provides a window into the city’s medieval past with its well-preserved architecture and exhibitions.

Ghent, a charming city in Belgium, is famed for its medieval allure, vibrant cultural scene, and stunning architecture. It’s also the country’s most pedestrian-friendly destination. The town’s scenic canal-side streets are ideal for a leisurely wander. The historical buildings along the canals create beautiful reflections in the water, offering iconic views of the city’s historic architecture.
