World’s highest bridge slashes commuting time to 2 minutes | World | News

A new king of construction was unveiled in China after the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge was officially opened fairly recently. The world’s highest bridge in Guizhou, southwest China, reduces people’s journey time from two hours to just two minutes, reported local state media.

The impressive project sees the distance between the deck, which serves as the road or walkway, and the surface below, measuring 625 metres or over half-a-kilometre. The new endeavor pips the previous tall crossing champion, the Beipanjiang Bridge (Duge Bridge), which is also located in China – standing at 565.4 metres – by nearly 60 metres.

According to ITV, before the bridge could be considered safe to welcome traffic, a dynamic load test was carried out which involved 96 trucks driving onto designated points of the structure in batches.

The new structure has now secured the Guinness World Record for the tallest example of a bridge in the entire world. And now travellers from all over the world are eager to see the grand construction that officially opened on September 28, 2025.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge features glass walkways to look down at the Beipan River, about 580 metres below, viewing platforms, and a glass lift to its high-sky café, planned to open in November of this year.

Adrenaline junkies can also bungee jump from the bridge with state media reporting that there are plans for professional BASE jumping events.
